Iowa’s economic picture has improved slightly but is still weak, according to the latest survey of purchasing managers by Creighton University. Economist Ernie Goss wasn’t very optimistic about the Hawkeye State’s numbers.While the statistics look somewhat better, it’s a moderation of the economic slowdown, not a real improvement. On the positive side, Goss says Iowa’s economic numbers for May were the best since November of 2000. He predicts the employment situation in Iowa will worsen this summer.The Federal Reserve Board is slated to meet in a few weeks, but Goss sees little help coming from the panel for further interest rate cuts.Creighton surveys purchasing managers in Iowa and eight other Midwestern states every month.
