A 100-year-old Missouri Valley woman got a special birthday gift this week — her college diploma. Myrtle Thomas had worked on her education degree decades ago at the University of Nebraska at Omaha but didn’t finish the student-teaching requirements to qualify to graduate. She went on to spend 20 years teaching. Upon presenting the diploma, a U-N-O official joked that if she applied herself, Thomas could get her Master’s Degree by age 105.
