The state’s top utility regulator says Iowans shouldn’t have to suffer through black outs this summer. Iowa Utility Board chairman Alan Thoms calls last month’s utility shut-offs in eastern Iowa “disruptions in service.” That’s where businesses, schools and other utility customers agreed to be cut-off when demand rose — in exchange for substantially lower rates. He says there’s a possibilty of more interruptions with a real hot summer.The State’s Consumer Advocate says studies show Iowa should have an adequate supply of electricity this summer. The two men made their comments during taping of the Iowa Public Television program, “Iowa Press.”
