More Iowans to receive medals for Korean War service

The fifty-year anniversary of the Korean War is upon us, and some Iowans will get medals of thanks for their service in the war. Radio The Korean American Cultural Foundation’s awards program honoring Korean War Vets is scheduled to make four stops in Iowa, all in mid-July. Gon Schneider, Executive Director of the Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs says the cultural awards program chose four stops in the state of Iowa: in Davenport, Marshalltown, Des Moines, and Council Bluffs.Schneider says they selected the four cities according to the number of veterans in the area. Veterans can pick up applications for the ceremonies from the Iowa Veterans Home, their local County Director of Veterans Affairs, or local veterans service organizations. Over 85-thousand Iowans served in the Korean War — 532 never made it home.
