Alliant Energy continues to pressure Iowa lawmakers to pass a bill that would ease restrictions for construction of new power plants. As Warren Kitts reports, the utility commissioned a survey to buttress its lobbying position. The poll, which was conducted by a Washington, D-C firm, found 71 percent of Alliant customers support having the utility build a new power plant in Iowa. Three-quarters of those polled said they were concerned about the supply of electricity in the state and the possibility of blackouts. Four hundred Alliant Energy customers were interviewed on May 22nd and 24th. The findings contradict a recent national survey which found two-thirds of Americans believe the major energy problem is prices, not shortages.
