A handful of Iowans were on hand at the White House today as President Bush signed the tax cut bill into law. Senator Charles Grassley, the former chair of the Senate Finance Committee, and Congressman Jim Nussle, chairman of the House Budget Committee, stood near Bush as he put pen to paper. Congressman Tom Latham, a republican from Alexander, was in the room, too.He says 924,000 Iowans will get rebate checks — pumping four-hundred-26 million dollars into the state’s economy. Latham says he hopes the governor and legislature will exempt the rebates from state taxes.Refund checks will be mailed to taxpayers later this summer. Individuals can receive a maximum refund of three-hundred-dollars. The max for a couple is six hundred.
