The three state universities are trying to find ways to deal with the legislature and governor’s cut of the work-study program. University of Northern Iowa assistant director of financial aid, Brian Will, says it’s not just the students who’ll feel the impact, as many departments depend on the work done by students across the campus.Will is asking the various departments to see if they can find money in their budgets to cover the student’s work-study salaries. He says there are still student jobs available.Some students were accepted into the program before the cuts, such as UNI junior Thresea Kulow. Will says the University will honor her award. She says workstudy is important because it lets her stay on campus instead of leaving for a job elsewhere. Some four thousand UNI students apply for workstudy jobs every year.
