The top administrator for the State Board of Regents is leaving that job in August. Frank Stork has been Executive Director of the Board that oversees the three state universities for the past three years. Board President Owen Newlin says he was surprised to learn that Stork, a lawyer, is taking a new job. He says Stork’s been offered the job of associate general counsel for Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa and South Dakota. The Regents hold their monthly meeting tomorrow in Ames. Newlin says they probably won’t discuss Stork’s decision to leave, but will instead focus on naming an interim executive director. The state universities are facing budget cuts as they have fewer funds from the state to work with. Newlin’s not sure what impact the budget situation might have on finding a candidate to replace Stork. He says he’s sure they’ll find out as they begin a search for his replacement.Stork was named executive director of the Regents in 1998. Prior to taking the job, he was the interim director of governmental relations at the University of Iowa.
