It’s National E-mail Week to celebrate this new way of communicating,although most of us can remember when e-mail wasn’t even a reality. MikeEggley, C-E-O at Iowa Network Services in Des Moines, says e-mail is thefirst reason people want to sign up for internet service. Michael Bowman,Assistant Director of the Office of Academic Information Technologies atIowa State University, says the university has seen e-mail use go updramatically in recent years. In the past five years, Iowa State has seen a300 percent increase in the number of e-mail messages sent on its system. Bowman says technology has established itself as an important factor in ourlives. Fifty-two percent of housholds in the U.S. are hooked up to theInternet, 35 percent more than a year ago.
