After two nights of twisters in northwest Iowa, last night it was easternIowa’s turn. A tornado hit Blue Grass about 6 last night, knocking downpower lines and trees and damaging businesses and homes. Blue Grass Police Chief John Jensen says there’s a holein the roof of his police station and damage inside. A few storage buildingsnext to the station are wrecked. Dozens of homes are damaged and at leastsix lost part or all of their roofs. Blue Grass Fire Chief Larry Guy sayshe’s never seen a disaster of this type hit his town. One person is reportedhurt — someone who was in a car that was hit by a falling limb. Chief Guysays they’re very fortunate and he’s amazed the casualty rate wasn’t muchhigher. The power is still out to many areas in the town of 14-hundred.Governor Vilsack has issued disaster declarations for Scott and Decaturcounties. Decatur, in south-central Iowa, had high winds last night whichstirred up enough debris to close several roads.
