Mason City High School tight end Scott Rairdon will play college football at Notre Dame. The senior-to-be had offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin and Nebraska but in the end chose the Fighting Irish. He says he gave the school his verbal commitment June 15th, after his second visit to campus. Rairdon says Notre Dame is the best school for the type of college experience he’s looking for.Rairdon says there are a number of reasons for making the decision early. He says he wants to begin preparing academically and he wants to concentrate on his final season of high school football without the interference of recruiting.Rairdon’s dad Scott graduated from Mason City, played at Nebraska and later coached under Lou Holtz at Notre Dame. Scott says despite that, he’s never really followed the Irish.The elder Rairdon says he did not want to influence his son’s decision but wanted to be helpful during the process.
