Researchers at the University of Iowa are looking for volunteers to help determine whether the drivers of the future can dictate e-mail while tooling down the road. Study participants will be set up in a high-tech driving simulator and will be sent off down the virtual highway. It has a voice recognition system that the computer can use to read e-mails to the driver.John Lee is associate professor of industrial engineering at the U-of-I. He says this study will help determine what technology may eventually find its way into our vehicles.Tom Schnell is director of the Operator Performance Laboratory. He says they’re interested in finding out how this software makes a positive impact on drivers.Between 60 and 80 drivers are needed for the study. They must have valid U-S driver’s licenses and be between 30 and 60 years old. The study will last three hours and participants will be compensated for their time.
