The girl’s state high school soccer tournament opens today in Muscatine. Third-ranked Bettendorf opens with a match against Iowa City West. Bettendorf and coach Todd Hornaday will be looking to avenge a first round loss to West last year. He says they’re essentially the same team as last year. Hornaday says while last year’s match ended one-to-nothing, West dominated play. He thinks it will be a closer match this year.Bettendorf has yielded just one goal the entire season and Hornaday says limiting the breakdowns on defense will be a key.Hornaday says all the teams at the state tournament are solid defensively so his club will need to take advantage of scoring opportunities.
