The Belmond-Klemme School Board last night approved the application of Mason City Newman Catholic to enter the North Iowa Conference, replacing Northwood-Kensett, which is moving to the Corn Bowl Conference. All seven school boards in the North Iowa Conference approved the application. Daryl Sherman, Lake Mills superintendent and commissioner of the N-I-C, says it’ll be effective in the 2002-03 school year. Sherman says Newman may be the best possible addition for the group. The N-I-C was founded in 1925 with Forest City, Britt, Garner, Lake Mills and Clear Lake as members. In 1926, Northwood, Belmond and Buffalo Center were added.
