After months of speculation Drake guard Luke McDonald will be returning for his sophomore season. McDonald said he was leaving Drake back in March and had considered joining new Texas Tech coach Bobby Knight in his hometown of Lubbock. This past season he was named Missouri Valley Conference freshman of the year and set a school record for three pointers by a freshman with 86.Drake coach Kurt Kanaskie says McDonald made the decision after going home for the summer. He says McDonald was going through a lot of uncertainty and was influenced by a lot of different people. He says he had to sort those issues out.Kanaskie says the coaching staff tried to give McDonald enough room to make his own decision. He says they laid out what they felt were the strengths of the program and let him decide.With a veteran team returning McDonald’s presence will raise the level of expectation. He says they are a better team with McDonald in the program and it’s okay to have higher expectations.
