Tiny mouse takes on Iowa National Guard

An endangered animal has been found nesting at the Iowa National Guard’s headquarters. The tiny creature called the plains pocket mouse has been on the state’s endangered species list since the list was first created in 1977. The mouse has made its house at Camp Dodge, the sprawling military installation that’s also home to the National Guard. Spokesman and Colonel Robert King says the mouse’s habitat has been identified and activity there will be restricted.Colonel King says the Guard is concerned about the environment and wants to ensure all natural resources in the area are preserved.King says there is no training the Guard will be forced to put to a halt as the 44-hundred-acre Camp Dodge is plenty big enough to be shared by both Guardsman — and mouse.
