The latest study of Iowa’s economy indicates a continued slowdown. Creighton University economist Dr. Ernie Goss says the hoped-for improvements have not yet arrived and the state continues to wallow.Creighton does a monthly survey of purchasing managers in Iowa and eight other Midwestern states. Dr. Goss says there was some positive feedback about the Hawkeye State’s economy, as the prices paid index shows energy prices are moderating.Goss predicts Iowa’s economy will continue to remain sluggish well into the third quarter, but he foresees a rebound in the fourth quarter, or early in the first quarter of 2002.The Federal Reserve Board won’t meet again until August after six interest rate hikes this year. While Goss says we’re not technically a recession, “it sure feels like one.”
