Getting good photos of fireworks on the 4th of July can be tricky. There are many things that can affect the outcome of pictures, no matter what experience the photographer has. Des Moines Register photojournalist John Gaps says the results will depend on your equipment.Gaps says a tri-pod is useful, and he recommends 400 A-S-A film. He says if you aren’t sure about your equipment, you might want to sit and watch, but there is one type of camera that will let you know instantly if you are getting good shots. He says a digital camera gives you an instant preview of the picture so you know if you’ve been successful.Gaps recommends taking many photos, and in fact he says fill the roll of film and shoot more. There are certain times to shoot, however. He says don’t waste all your film at the beginning as you won’t have any film left for the finale.July 4th is one of three U-S holidays that are considered the most “photogenic” holidays. The others are Halloween and Christmas.
