One college football magazine feels the Iowa Hawkeyes will be the surprise team of the Big Ten this upcoming season. Phil Steele’s College Football Preview feels the improvement will continue in the third year of coach Kirk Ferentz. He says Iowa finished the season strong last year and are a team that improved throughout the season.Steele says Iowa’s improvement has paralleled the improvement on the offensive line. He says many people look at the skill players and overlook the importance of the offensive line to a team’s success.Steele looks for major improvement from the defense and says added speed in the secondary is one of the reasons. He says the size of the defensive line is also a key to making improvement. Steele has the Hawkeyes ranked 38th nationally in his pre-season top 40. Iowa opens at home September first against Kent State.
