An Iowa tourist may be headed home, and local residents aren’t sorry to see the departure. A 250-pound black bear that’s been wandering through brush and timber along the Mississippi in northeastern Iowa in recent weeks may have gone back where it came from. Two people reported sighting the bear Tuesday just north of Harper’s Ferry in Allamakee County. Officials say the bear entered the state near the town of New Albin, then wandered south along the river in Clinton and Dubuque counties.
