Some of the sleekest custom-built cars, hot rods and classic cruisers from across America are revving their engines in Des Moines this weekend. The 10th annual “Heartland Nationals” is underway at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.John Drummond is publicity chairman for the California-based Good Guys Association, which puts on the show. He says the 25-hundred vehicles are all at least 35 years old — and many of them date back to the 1930s — but still look like they just rolled off the production line.Drummond expects 35-thousand people will attend the Nationals. He says car owners will be cruising to Des Moines from all over the U-S to take part in this national event and to try and win the “Custom Rod of the Year” award from Good Guys.
