One of the nation’s leading critics of the F-B-I met Monday with the man chosen by President Bush to be the Bureau’s new leader. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he had about an hour with Robert Mueller.Grassley says he was impressed Mueller called him and requested the meeting but he says he’ll reserve making a final judgement on Mueller until after the confirmation hearings are concluded.Grassley talked with Mueller about how he’d “fix the problems” at the F-B-I and ensure “whistleblowers” aren’t punished, as in the past. Grassley says Mueller says he won’t know what for sure needs to be done, but he has some experience in cleaning up messes.Grassley says there’s a “tremendous opportunity” right now with a new director to overhaul the F-B-I. Bureau directors typically serve ten-year terms.
