State Senator John Redwine may be the latest to throw his hat into the ring for a run at the U-S House from Iowa’s new Fifth District. Visiting the statehouse Monday, the republican state lawmaker says he’s making stops around the state to gauge public opinion. He says he calls the “House Calls” something he once did as a physician.Redwine is aware he’d be joining a crowded field of candidates who are coming forward to try for the large district created by the state’s redistricting. He says the primary will be tough, with three others already announced, two of them friends of Redwine, he says. Redwine wants voters to know he’d be a fulltime candidate for the U-S House seat. The person who wins the primary probably will go to Congress, but Redwine says he’ll leave his job and spend 17 months on his campaign. The Sioux City republican currently serves on the state Ways and Means, Commerce and Education committees, and chairs the state Human Resources committee.
