The Bob Feller Museum in Van Meter has a new exhibit that’s getting a lot of attention. It’s one of bats the former Cleveland Indians pitcher use that’s drawing attention. Museum supervisor Bonnie Feldwin says the bat became a crutch for Babe Ruth during Ruth’s farewell speech in 1948 in New York. Someone grabbed the bat and gave it to Ruth as he passed through the Cleveland dugout.Ruth later autographed the bat for another player, and it was sold. The bat bounced around among collectors until Feller and a group of investors were able to buy the bat and give it to the museum. The appearance by the homerun slugging Ruth was one of his last before he died.
