Polk County officials will pay for an ad campaign to convince employers to hire the handicapped. Program planner Maria Walker says bus signs, billboards, radio and T-V will carry messages urging business owners to take advantage of an overlooked portion of the workforce.A Gallup Poll found a 70-percent jobless rate for the disabled, but found most want to work. Walker says there are about 86-thousand people with disabilities in Iowa. She admits they may not completely end the state’s labor shortage.But there’s a lot of potential out there.
