Grant and research money continues to flow into the University of Iowa in Iowa City.U-of-I Vice President for Research, David Skorton announced today a record 277-point-nine million dollars for “external support”. Skorton says Uncle Sam kicked in the bulk of the funds. The U-of-I’s medical operation continues to be a big draw for federal funds as the College of Medicine and the College of Health accounted for a majority of the funding. Nearly 138-million dollars came from the U-S Department of Health and Human Services — up 11-percent over last year. Skorton says the funds are important to the University and the State of Iowa.The second highest donation of funds to the U-of-I came from private industry at 31-million dollars. Private organizations donated just over 30-million dollars. The figures are for the 2001 fiscal year which ended June 30th.
