For Dave Eichelberger an appearance in Des Moines was a trip down memory lane. Eichelberger won the U-S Senior Open at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club back in 1999. He will play in the inaugural Allianz Championship in Des Moines this September. It’s the first time he’s been back since winning the tourney, an event he says he’ll always remember.Eichelberger says he has been fortunate to be playing at a time when popularity of the Senior Tour is growing.Tournament director Hollis Cavner says the idea for a regular tour stop came from the success of the 1999 U-S Senior Tour. Arnold Palmer and Chi Chi Rodriguez have committed to play and Cavner says for a first-year event the Allianz will have a tough field. The weeklong events, including the three-day tournament will be September third through the ninth.
