The class 2A semifinals are underway at the state baseball tournament in Marshalltown. Mid-Praire opened the door early and Emmetsburg walked through it. The E-Hawks took advantage of four walks, a hit batsman and two Golden Hawk errors to build a 4-0 lead at the end of two and held on for a 4-3 victory and a trip to the 2A championship game. Emmetsburg coach Mike Brennan says they are thrilled to play in the title game.Mid-Prairie coach Brian Miller says the rough start by his team was not the difference in the game.Miller felt his team would add more runs after getting three in the third inning.Emmetsburg takes a 29-2 record into the championship game and will try and better their last appearance at the tournament when they finished as the runner-up in 1978. Making a first trip to the tournament Mid-Prairie ends the season 32-7.The defending class 1A baseball tournament champions are back in the title game.Defending champions Granville-Spalding pulled out early with three runs on three hits in the first inning. The Spartans went on to defeat Lone Tree 10-4. Lone Tree coach Tim Navara says it was good experience in his school’s first tourney appearance.Granville-Spalding moves on at 34-5, while Lone Tree wraps up the season at 38-8.
