Minneapolis-based Target Corporation announced today it will build a new distribution center in Cedar Falls that’ll eventually create 900 jobs. The center will distribute general merchandise to Target stores in Iowa and surrounding states. John Page, Cedar Falls’ director of developmental services, says the city recently rezoned the site and will acquire the property for Target. The center will be one-point-three-five million square feet, and the company will eventually employ 900. Page says they’ve been working on this deal for some time. Bob Seymour was the lead negotiator on the project for the city. The city will give Target the site at no cost, will run city utilities to the site, and will give the company tax abatement. Seymour says it was a much larger project than they normally deal with. Construction is scheduled to start in early September, with the center to be completed by the spring of 2003.
