The semifinal round in class 1A highlights tonight’s action at the state high school softball tournament. For all the teams in tonight’s semifinals it is a first-ever trip to the final four, and one will earn a first state title. Fourth ranked Missouri Valley earned a victory in the school’s first appearance at the tournament with a first round win over 11th ranked Rockwell City-Lytton. Coach Christi Gochenour says having been so close the past few years has made this team hungry.The Lady Reds will take on a 16th ranked BCLUW team that got by 8th ranked Edgewood-Colesburg in a marathon 15-inning affair. Third ranked Colfax-Mingo has ridden the pitching of junior Jessica Hicks to a spot in the semifinals. Hicks says it will be a challenge taking on Sigourney’s solid line-up.Sixth ranked Sigourney downed Pocahontas area in the opening round.
