The three-year-long strike at a Des Moines tire plant could be near resolution. Titan Tire officials have released a statement, saying there is a tentative agreement on the table, although union members aren’t sure the deal’s been struck.United Steelworkers member Steve Baltzley of Des Moines says they’d like to see it settled. Baltzley doesn’t know what led Titan officials to resume negotiating with the union. He says it’s the best thing to happen so far.About 670 union workers have been on strike at the Titan plant since May 1, 1998. A statement by the local union president calls Thursday’s development’s “progress” but not a resolution to the labor dispute. Titan executives say union workers will be asked to vote this weekend on a five-year contract.
