The Iowa State Fair Queen contest is more crowded with competitors than ever before. There are 96 contestants in this year’s State Fair Queen contest, the most ever. Contest coordinator Julie Butterworth says not every Iowa county is represented, while others have two contestants.Butterworth was State Fair Queen in 1993, representing Ida County and her hometown of Danbury. She says it was one of the greatest experiences of her life. Butterworth says the contestants began their first round of interviews Wednesday. On Friday, the contestants will be involved in group discussions. They have an opportunity to discuss issues that the judges bring up.The young women will be judged on their attire, too. The State Fair Queen will be crowned Saturday at three o’clock.
