One of T-V’s original Mouseketeers is back in his home state this weekend to help raise money for charity at the Iowa State Fair. 55-year-old Paul Peterson may be best known for playing Jeff Stone on the “Donna Reed Show”, whose namesake is also an Iowan. Peterson lives in Los Angeles now and runs a charity of his own, but Saturday, he’s showing an 18-hundred pound Maine Anjou steer raised by a Denison boy in the Governor’s Charity Steer Show. Peterson isn’t a complete stranger to the process, having grown up on a Cherokee County farm near Otto.Proceeds from the Governor’s Steer show will go to Ronald McDonald Houses in Des Moines, Sioux City and Iowa City. Peterson’s resume includes acting roles in a variety of movies and T-V shows over the decades, including, “Purple Rain”, “F-Troop”, “The A-Team” and “Love American Style”. A decade ago, Peterson and his wife founded “A Minor Consideration”, which initially was a support group for former child stars. The foundation now has more than 600 members, most of them former child actors. Peterson was in the first cast of Mouseketeers in 1955. The then-ten-year-old was dismissed from the program after the first season for “disruptive behavior,” and now he jokes he was the first ex-Mouseketeer.
