A man accused of robbing banks in Iowa and other states will not get a new lawyer. Anthony Flowers is suspected of robbing a bank in Lincoln, Nebraska, one in Omaha, and the same Cedar Rapids bank first in September and again in May. Before the second holdup, he was spotted and arrested in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he escaped from jail, took a local woman hostage, and forced her to drive him to Sioux City. After allegedly hitting the Cedar Rapids bank a second time, he was arrested June first in Dubuque and this time has remained in jail. Flowers, also known as Clyde Scott Hoffman, has asked a district judge to remove the assistant public defender assigned to his case, but in July and again last week, the judge denied the requests. Flowers’ trial is set to begin September fifth.
