Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says he will make a decision on the Hawkeyes starting quarterback in less than two weeks. Sophomore Jon Beutjer and senior Kyle McCann are the two favorites heading into pre-season practice. Beutjer started four games last season and says the experience is a plus going into this season. He says he was nervous last year about playing, but is more confident with some games under his belt.Beutjer says the quarterbacks know how the starter will be chosen, and that makes it easier.Beutjer hopes the staff will select a starter and stick with them rather than rotating quarterbacks. He says most guys would probably like to see the same thing.McCann started the final four games of last season. He says there is competition at a number of positions in practice it is just that quarterback is the most visible.McCann has been through several battles for the quarterback job so for him it is nothing new.McCann says whoever becomes the starting quarterback the Hawks feel this could become a breakthrough year. The Hawkeyes open the season at home September first against Kent State.
