A Webster City hatchery owner says attempts to keep baby chicks flying on airplanes has failed. Murray McMurray, co-owner of McMurray Hatchery in Webster City, says Northwest Airlines will stop carrying the chicks September 1st.Negotiations between Northwest and the Postal Service broke down and the airline will no longer carry the chicks as mail. McMurray says the next step is to go through federal lawmakers to try and get things changed. He says they’ve already hired a lobbyist.McMurray says the hatchery mailed one-point-seven million chicks to 32-thousand customers this year, including small family farmers, zoos, 4-H members and even decorating maven Martha Stewart.
