The men and women in brown will be out in extra strength on Iowa roadways this afternoon.Iowa State Patrol spokesman Sergeant Robert Hansen says 100 extra state troopers will hit the road this weekend in a federally-funded program aimed at keeping the highways safe. Sergeant Hansen says an average of three people are killed in accidents during the Labor Day weekend. He says last year was well above that average as six people were killed. Hansen says while troopers are looking for people violating traffic laws, you can help prevent accidents by being alert and driving defensively. The extra troopers will start patrolling Iowa highways at noon today and continue through midnight on Monday.
