The Iowa Hawkeyes claimed their season opener on Saturday with a 51-0 rout of Kent State in Kinnick Stadium. The Hawks piled up 331-yards of rushing against their overmatched opponent and Kirk Ferentz says he was pleased with the improvement shown in the offensive line.One of the suprises was the play of tight end Dallas Clark. The converted linebacker hauled in five catches for 84-yards.Kyle McCann and Brad Banks combined for 236-yards of passing and Ferentz felt the quarterbacks performed well in an opener.Ferentz felt the maturity of the Hawkeyes was evident during the preparation for the game, as they focused on winning.Ladell Betts led the Iowa ground attack with 99-yards on 15-carries. Betts credits the line with opening up big holes.Betts says while the game was one-sided he felt it showed the kind of depth the Hawkeyes have this season.
