A report finds more Iowans are declaring bankruptcy than ever before and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley expects a new record to be set this year in the number of personal and business bankruptcies. He says they’ve been working on reform legislation. Grassley says it’s cause for alarm — and action. He says people who have the ability to repay debt are playing games, and the system needs to be changed.A Des Moines Register report says bankruptcies rose 22-point-four-percent in Iowa’s northern judicial district during the past fiscal year — the seventh highest in the country. The southern district had an increase of 20-point-six percent, the ninth highest.
