Law students at the University of Iowa are hearing hard pitches this afternoon for staying in the Hawkeye State once they graduate. Cedar Rapids lawyer Laurie Dawley is helping organize Iowa Law Day.The U-of-I’s College of Law 2000 graduating class saw a whopping 68-percent leave the state for their first jobs. Dawley, a 1998 U-of-I law school grad, says that’s an unfortunate trend which needs to be turned around. This is the third year for the event, which began the year Governor Vilsack started his push to keep Iowa’s college graduates from going elsewhere to start their professional lives. People are lured by big cities and big salaries, but Dawley says Iowa has much to offer too, including quality of life and quality of work.Iowa Supreme Court Justice Linda Neuman was slated to give the keynote address at 4 p-m, to be followed by panel discussions on the benefits of practicing law in Iowa.
