In high school football action tonight, in class 4A, top-ranked West Des Moines Dowling hosts tenth-ranked Sioux City Heelan. Heelan coach Roger Janssen is impressed with Dowling’s balance. He says they can run or pass and it’s hard to try and single out one facet of their offense.Dowling coach Matt Dillon says Heelan quarterback Carter Black was impressive in a season opening win over Marshalltown. Dillon says Black is very athletic and can run or throw the ball well.Dike-New Hartford faces a second straight ranked opponent tonight. The class 2A second-ranked Wolverines downed Aplington-Parkersburg last week and visits class 1A North Tama. Dike-New Hartford coach Tom Wilson says his team displayed a lot of confidence in the opener after fighting through some injuries. He says they’re ready to see how much improvement they’ve made in a week’s time. Wilson says North Tama will be a difficult assignment as the game is on the road and he expects it to be a physical game.In class 1A, eighth ranked Council Bluffs St. Albert hosts ninth ranked Bedford. St. Albert opened with a loss last week to class 3A eighth ranked Lewis Central and coach Jim Duggan says with the tough non-district slate, they will get a lot of questions answered.Duggan says both teams will want to run the ball first so turnovers and field position become more of a factor.
