“Job fair” organizers are seeing the effects of the economic downturn. Fewer employers are signing up to pitch booths at job fairs. Kristi Judkins of the Iowa Workforce Development agency says an upcoming job fair she’s organizing in Des Moines has only 60 businesses signed up. Last year, about two-and-a-half times more businesses participated. She says they’re finding businesses don’t want to focus time and attention on the job fair with the small need they have for new employees. The September 18th job fair Judkins is organizing targets veterans, minority and “mature” workers, as well as the disabled.
