Iowa Air National Guard fighter jets and pilots are being scrambled to provide security in reaction to the terrorist disasters on the East Coast. Iowa Army National Guard spokesman Colonel Robert King could not elaborate, but confirms Iowa Air Guardsmen are involved. Colonel King could not say how many Iowa Guard members have been activated.The Iowa Air National Guard has squadrons of F-16 fighter jets based both in Des Moines and Sioux City. Several hundred pilots and support staff comprise the 132nd Fighter Wing in Des Moines and the 185th Fighter Wing in Sioux City. Colonel King says the Guard is at the ready for any incidents in Iowa.There are as many as 96-hundred Iowa Army and Air National Guard members who could be alerted, but at this point, it’s only a few members from a couple of units.
