Airports across the country underwent security sweeps this morning in preparations for re-opening. Des Moines International Airport spokesman Michael Audino says tighter security measures will be in place when operations resume. He says there will be no curbside check-in, only people with boarding passes will be allowed through security checkpoints, and no unattended vehicles will be allowed in front of the building. Audino says they will also take extra precautions to prevent any potential weapon from getting on a plane. No sharp objects will be allowed on the plane, including letter openers, fingernail clippers.Audino advises anyone who flies to expect a longer wait. He expects all passengers to be cooperative with the changes. The entire terminal and all parking lots at the airport were shut down for the search, which was expected to be completed by 11 o’clock. Fort Dodge regional airport manager Rhonda Chambers says the airlines are swamped. She says it is important to give airlines the proper phone number so they can call people back.
