Members of the Iowa Board of Regents have suggested it might be necessary to raise tuition as much as 18 percent to maintain quality at Iowa, Iowa State and U-N-I. University of Iowa student body president Nick Klenske of Dubuque says students were stunned by the discussion at today’s Regent’s meeting in Iowa City. He says the discussion seemed pretty scripted.Klenske, who’s a senior from Dubuque, says student government leaders from Iowa, Iowa State and U-N-I were given a chance to speak, but he doubts the Regents were listening. The Board of Regents staff recommended a 12-and-a-half percent increase in tuition and fees. The Board of Regents was scheduled to vote on the tuition issue at its October meeting, but has decided to wait ’til November to make a decision.
