Students vow to fight tuition increase

Students at Iowa’s public universities are proposing a change in the way they pay tuition. University of Iowa student body president Nick Klenske says it’s in response to the 18 percent tuition increase the Board of Regents is considering. Klenske proposes a “tuition freeze” — students would pay the same tuition rate in their sophomore, junior and senior years as they did in their first year.Members of the Iowa Board of Regents met yesterday in Iowa City and suggested it might be necessary to raise tuition as much as 18 percent to maintain quality at Iowa, Iowa State and U-N-I. Klenske says students are appalled. He says all three student organizations will fight the increase.
