The Iowa State Cyclones resume their season when they visit Ohio on Saturday. The Cyclones had an unexpected off-week when the game with Iowa was postponed due to last week’s attack on the United States. Cyclone coach Dan McCarney says the attack has been a shock for everyone involved with the program.The Cyclones suffered their first major injury of the year when back-up middle linebacker Chris Whitaker suffered a torn knee ligament in practice over the weekend. Whitaker will soon have surgery and will be redshirted. Ohio enters this ballgame as a slight favorite. McCarney says that’s not surprising based on what Ohio has done at home.The Iowa Hawkeyes have their scheduled week off before opening Big Ten play at home against Penn State a week from Saturday. Hawkeye coach Kirk Ferentz says his team has to look at the time off as an opportunity. He says it has altered the schedule, but they’re looking at it as an opportunity to polish the team.Ferentz says whether the added time off helps or hurts depends on how a team handles it.The Hawkeyes will close the season with nine straight games but Ferentz says that should not be a problem.
