There’s a new look to National Guard armories across Iowa — significantly more security. Guard spokesman Colonel Robert King says they’ve been on a heightened alert status since last week’s terrorist attacks on the East Coast.In addition to armed guards and concrete barriers, anyone who wants to enter the various Iowa armories will have to show a photo I-D and sign in. Colonel King says the Iowa Guard has nearly nine-thousand-500 members available — if they’re needed.No Iowa units are on active duty but about 250 troops have been called to action to help with security measures.
