The Iowa Department of Labor is touting the state’s senior population this week during Older Iowan Worker Week. Eileen Siedlecki works with the department’s employment and training agency in Independence. She says older workers are a great asset who work hard and are reliable.Siedlecki says their “Green Thumb” employment program helps older Iowans find jobs. They have a couple of training options, including one in which an employer is reimbursed 50-percent of the employee’s wages during training. Siedlecki says the other option is work experience in which the employer is reimbursed for 100-percent of the wages for a short period of time. If the employee performs satisfactorily, then the person is hired. Siedlecki encourages older Iowans to look into jobs. For questions you can contact the Iowa Department of Labor.
