Senator Charles Grassley is renewing his call for quick Senate confirmation of U-S Attorneys, Marshals and federal judges. Grassley’s a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, the panel that conducts an initial review of all the nominees for those jobs. He’s written the Committee’s chairman, asking for a speedy review of Chuck Larson’s nomination to be U-S Attorney for Iowa’s Northern District.Grassley said Larson’s helping handle the case against Youseff Hmimssa, the Cedar Rapids man arrested in connection with a plot to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago. On September 18th, Grassley first issued his request that the President’s picks for top justice department posts gain a speedy “yes” vote of confirmation from the U-S Senate. Grassley says 93 U-S Marshals, 93 U-S Attorneys and about 100 federal judges await Senate confirmation.Senator Grassley agrees with President Bush’s decision to reopen Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., the only commercial airport to remain closed since the September 11th attacks. Bush wants the airport to re-open under tight security, with armed marshals on every flight, as the flight path for planes glides over the Capitol, White House and Pentagon.Grassley says closing the D-C airport would be a victory for the terrorists, and put over 16-thousand people out of work.Critics say re-opening the airport shows America’s not serious about homeland security.
